Wistia supports HDR (High Dynamic Range) video derivatives for an enhanced range of color and brightness. Our HDR derivatives will use your video’s highest quality dimensions and are supported in Chrome, Safari, and Edge.
Currently, we only support the HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma or ARIB STD-B67) transfer function for HDR video outputs.
We do not currently support:
Any browsers other than Chrome, Edge, and Safari.
Building 10-bit derivatives.
Uploading HDR Videos
We’ll determine if a video file has HDR metadata upon upload. If we detect that a video has an HLG transfer function or PQ (Perceptual Quantizer) transfer function, we’ll create an HDR derivative of the highest quality. We transform PQ videos into videos using the HLG function, but the metadata for the HDR derivative reflects the metadata in the original file uploaded. Encoding times for HDR videos are expected to be longer for the HQ HDR derivative.
HDR Video Playback
Once an HDR derivative is ready to be played, it will show up in the Wistia player only if the device and browser in use support HDR. If you do not see an HDR option in the Wistia player for an HDR video, please confirm if your browser or device supports HDR playback.
