Note

Publish to Social is not currently compatible for Channels with podcasting capabilities, or audio files in folders. If you’d like to publish a video to Facebook, LinkedIn, or YouTube, be sure to upload it to a folder.

Publish to Social allows you to connect Wistia to your Facebook, Youtube, and LinkedIn accounts, providing the option to directly upload your video content to your social networks. By sharing your content natively on social, you can make use of the full functionality of each platform’s built-in video player to boost engagement with your content.

This feature currently supports publishing directly to Facebook business pages, Youtube channels, and LinkedIn company pages.

Note

This feature is not compatible with Soapbox videos exported to Wistia. At this time you can only publish videos that you’ve uploaded to your Wistia account. If you are a user on a paid Soapbox plan, you can download your creations first, then upload them to Wistia and Publish!

Note

The video recording power of Soapbox is now available natively in Wistia. Learn more.

Connect your Social Accounts to Wistia

To connect your social accounts to Wistia, head over to Account → Settings → Integrations (only the Account Owner and Managers can access this page). Under Social Media Integrations, you can click on the desired platform and choose connect.

publish to social integrations

From there, you’ll be asked to approve Wistia’s requested permissions on your social account. Once you allow these permissions, the integration will show as connected in Wistia!

Note

Both the Facebook and LinkedIn integrations require connecting to business pages. If you are trying to connect to a personal page, the connection will fail. Check out Facebook for business here and LinkedIn business pages here.

Once connected, you’ll notice that under your Facebook and LinkedIn integrations, there is a dropdown menu with the pages you have access to. If you have access to more than one business page on either of these platforms, make sure you’ve selected the one you’d like to publish to, and presto ✨, you’re all ready to publish!

Publishing your Videos

On a video’s page, click “Share” and navigate to the “Publish to Social” tab. From there you can select which social networks to use, as well as edit the title and description of the post.

Publish videos to social

Not ready to share the content with your networks just yet? No need to worry, the standard privacy options for each platform will be available before the video goes live so you’ll be able to customize the visibility of the post/video. This way the video will not be immediately visible to the public if you so choose.

Stats

Want to see how your sweet videos are doing? You can see social stats from all of our supported social networks! Stats will be available for videos that have been published directly from Wistia to Facebook, Youtube, or LinkedIn.

social stats

Within a video’s individual stats page, you’ll see a section entitled Social. This is where social stats for your video livex. You can see how a video is performing on the networks that it has been published to. These are the metrics available for social stats:

  • Views

  • Likes

  • Comments

  • Shares (not available for LinkedIn)

Note

Youtube’s analytics are typically updated every 24–48 hours. Google states that YT analytics “can have a delay of a few days.” If your Youtube stats in Wistia haven’t updated in a day or two, they are likely just delayed. More details on Google’s support page here.

Troubleshooting and FAQs

Why aren’t my Wistia customizations showing up?

Wistia vs Native Players

When you publish your videos to social, we’re directly uploading a video file to that platform. That means you won’t be seeing the Wistia player there, you’ll instead be using the native players of each respective platform. This also means that your Wistia-specific customizations won’t carry over.

So why publish to social if you don’t get the Wistia functionality? Natively uploading videos to social means you can use the built-in functionality that might not be available with a Wistia embed. Whereas the Wistia player is great for driving traffic to your website, uploading to the native player on other platforms is great for other use-cases where you purely want to increase the visibility & reach of your content.

Here’s a list of features that won’t be included with your published videos on social:

  • Appearance (player color, thumbnail, etc)

  • Controls

  • Turnstile

  • Calls-to-Action

  • Annotations

  • Chapters

  • Captions

  • Password

  • Video stats

  • Marketing Integrations

If you’d prefer to keep these features, then you may want to embed your video and use our Social Sharing options instead.

My videos aren’t publishing to LinkedIn

There are a couple of different reasons your videos may not be publishing to LinkedIn successfully.

  • Does the LinkedIn login you connected the integration with have Admin access to a business page? Without having an Admin role, videos will not publish.

  • Check your integrations page in Wistia to be sure your LinkedIn integration is up to date. If you see an “Update” option on the integration, give that a go. This means the integration may need to be reauthorized and updating may solve the problem. Once updated, try publishing your video again.

  • LinkedIn has a few requirements for video posts, including a time limit, and supported file types. Be sure that your video falls within LinkedIn’s requirements.

My videos aren’t publishing to YouTube

Here are a few things you can try to get your videos over to YouTube:

  • Check to make sure that you’ve authenticated the integration with a YouTube account that is connected to a YouTube Channel. If the account isn’t connected to a channel, the videos won’t be able to publish anywhere.

  • YouTube has a daily upload limit. If you think you might have reached it, try again in 24 hours.

  • Ensure that your video title is under 100 characters and does not include invalid characters.
