Once you have your podcast feed configured and at least one episode published, it’s time to make your podcast available to your audience on their favorite platforms. To get listed on a podcast directory, you’ll need an account with that directory and your RSS feed URL from Wistia. Your podcast RSS feed URL contains all of the metadata and information about your show and episodes.

Note

While you can upload both video and audio episodes to your podcast in Wistia, not all directories support video episodes. Currently, Apple supports video podcasts, as well as some of Spotify’s partners.

Your RSS Feed URL

To get your podcast’s RSS Feed URL, navigate to the Distribute tab of your Podcast Settings page.

Copy your RSS Feed URL at the bottom of the page and you’ll be ready to submit it to directories!

Note

The podcast experience can greatly vary across different applications and platforms. Everything gets translated differently by each app, as they all have the freedom to interpret the RSS feed however they’d like. For example, in Spotify, the episode “Notes” field will populate under “Episode Description” on the episode page there. However, in Apple Podcasts, the notes will not be visible unless you are subscribed to the show and the episode is playing in the mobile app.

Apple Podcasts

In the Distribute tab of your Podcast Settings, click Connect under Apple Podcasts. Here, you’ll be able to see a step-by-step guide that walks you through how to submit your podcast to Apple. Or, you can follow the instructions here!

1. Copy your RSS Feed URL from Wistia

To distribute your podcast on Apple Podcasts (formerly iTunes), you’ll first want to copy your RSS feed URL from Wistia, you can find the link to your RSS feed under the “Distribute” tab in your Podcast Settings.

2. Create an Apple ID and an iTunes Store Account

We recommend creating a new Apple ID for your podcast, especially if you’re submitting a podcast on behalf of your company. This way, multiple people from your team can manage the account without having access to your personal account.

The Apple ID will need to be one that is used to sign in to purchase items at the iTunes Store, App Store, Apple Books, or Apple Music. This categorizes the Apple ID as an iTunes Store account. Once you create an Apple ID, you will be guided through authentication and ready to log in.

3. Log in to Apple Podcasts

Once you have your new Apple ID, use it to log into Apple Podcasts Connect.

4. Submit your podcast using your RSS Feed URL

If you’re submitting your first podcast, Apple Podcasts Connect will have a blank page with a ‘+’ in the top-left corner. Select the ‘+’ button to enter your RSS Feed URL and select ‘Validate’.

Validation allows you to review your Podcast’s information. Make sure that the title, categories, language, media, copyright, website link, explicit disclaimer, and the list of episodes are all correct. If you see anything you want to update, you can do so from the Podcast Settings in your Wistia Channel.

If everything looks correct, select ‘Confirm’ and your feed will be submitted to Apple Podcasts and approved within 48 hours. Apple will send an approval email with a link to your podcast’s listing. Copy this link and input it into your Wistia Channel’s Distribution page.

5. Head back to Connect under Apple Podcasts

Once your podcast has been approved by Apple, select Connect under Apple Podcasts again. Scroll down to paste your Apple Podcasts URL, and then click Submit URL. This connects your Apple Podcasts URL to Wistia, which then means that any of your Channel visitors will be able to subscribe directly to your podcast on Apple, from within your Channel.
