Wistia and LinkedIn Live Integration

All about getting your Wistia account ready for live streaming on LinkedIn.

Connect the integration

Like with any integration, the first step is getting connected! To connect your Wistia account to LinkedIn Live, an Account Owner or Manager must head to the Integrations page in account settings and select the "LinkedIn Live" integration.

Note

In order to use this integration, you must be on a Wistia plan with webinar access.

Note

The LinkedIn Live integration requires connecting to a business page. If you are trying to connect to a personal page, the connection will fail. You can learn more about LinkedIn business pages here.

From the LinkedIn Live integration page, click "Set up" then "Connect" in the window that opens.

You’ll be taken to LinkedIn to log in and complete setup. Once connected, you’ll be able to select the business page for your stream and the closest region where the asset should be registered.

You can update the connection at any time by clicking "Reconnect" or "Configure" on the LinkedIn Live integration page.

Go live on LinkedIn

Note

Your LinkedIn business page must meet LinkedIn’s access criteria in order to broadcast on their platform.

After completing the steps above, you can enable simulcasting to LinkedIn on any of your upcoming webinars. Just click the Simulcast button on your webinar's Overview page and toggle the LinkedIn Live integration to the "On" position.

You can enable LinkedIn Live on any upcoming webinar at any time. As soon as you enable it on a scheduled webinar, Wistia creates the announcement post on your LinkedIn page so your audience can find and follow the event ahead of time. Your stream goes live on that post the moment you go live in Wistia.

With this set up, all you have left to do is go live!

Tip

If you need to edit or cancel a scheduled event in LinkedIn, don't forget to make the change in Wistia as well. Editing or canceling directly on LinkedIn won't sync back to Wistia.

FAQs

How will my stream appear on LinkedIn?

When LinkedIn Live is enabled for your Wistia Webinar, an announcement post is created on your LinkedIn page as soon as you enable it. When you go live in Wistia, that post becomes a live stream. Your audience watching from LinkedIn can use LinkedIn's comments and reaction tools throughout your stream.

I just went live on Wistia. Why is my stream not appearing on LinkedIn?

It takes a few seconds for the stream to show up on LinkedIn, and you’ll need to reload the page to see it populate.

Will my LinkedIn post show before I go live?

Yes. When you enable LinkedIn Live on a scheduled webinar, Wistia immediately creates a public LinkedIn Live Event post on your LinkedIn page (before the webinar starts), so members can find it, RSVP with "Attend," and get LinkedIn's reminder notifications ahead of time.

Your webinar's thumbnail is automatically attached as the post's banner image, rather than LinkedIn's default placeholder graphic. For the best result, we recommend using a webinar thumbnail with a 16:9 aspect ratio (LinkedIn's recommendation for the banner image). If your webinar doesn't have a custom thumbnail, LinkedIn's default image is used instead. When you go live in Wistia, the post automatically switches to your live video.

Where can I find the URL for my LinkedIn live stream?

After the stream goes live, you can find the URL for the LinkedIn live stream by clicking the “Simulcast” icon in the Event room or by visiting the Event page on LinkedIn.

How do I stream from Wistia to an existing LinkedIn Event?

We recommend using the Wistia and LinkedIn Live integration instead of creating a LinkedIn Event directly. However, if you have already created a "LinkedIn Event" and want to stream from Wistia to that existing event, you will need to use the Simulcasting feature instead.

Note

These steps must be completed within one hour before your LinkedIn Event's scheduled time. Your Wistia webinar's scheduled time should match your LinkedIn Event's.

After creating your event on LinkedIn:

  1. One hour before your LinkedIn Event's scheduled time, go to your LinkedIn "Manage Streams" page.

  2. Click the "Prepare to go live" button of your LinkedIn Event.

  3. Generate your LinkedIn Event's Stream URL and Stream Key using the directions on that page.

  4. Copy your LinkedIn Event's Stream URL and Stream Key, then paste them into the "Simulcast" setting for your corresponding Wistia webinar.

    1. Also, be sure to disable the "LinkedIn Live" integration in the "Simulcast" setting modal to prevent the stream from appearing twice on your LinkedIn page.

  5. At the scheduled time, you will need to go live on both Wistia and LinkedIn.
