Import from URL

Learn how to upload media to your account using a URL.

Written by Hanna

There are many ways to upload media to your Wistia account. However, if you’re hoping to save yourself a few steps, you may want to consider importing your file via URL. To get started, all you’ll need is a public URL containing a video or audio file.

Import your media from a URL

To import a media file from a URL, click the “New” or "Add" button on any folder or Video Library page. From the dropdown menu, select "Import" then "Import from URL."

After clicking “Import from URL,” paste a publicly available link that has one primary video or audio file on the page, and click “Continue.”

Note

This feature will only work for publicly available links. Pages that are hidden behind a login will automatically fail.

Note

Some sources aren't supported for URL import. For example, Vimeo links and Wistia media URLs won't import this way. For Wistia-hosted media, we recommend using Move & Copy to transfer content between accounts instead.

Tip

Import from URL will not pull in captions or languages available on the original media. However, you can upload, generate, or purchase captions and transcripts in Wistia. See Transcripts and Captions for details.
