What is Descript?
Descript is a collaborative audio and video editor. It includes transcription, a screen recorder, publishing, full multitrack editing, and AI tools.
How to import to Wistia from
Once you’re ready to upload your media to Wistia, there are a few steps you'll need to complete in Descript.
Tip
You'll need to be a Standard User (or above) in order to import content from Descript. If you're signing in with SSO and the publish doesn't start, log into Wistia directly first (open your Wistia account in another tab and sign in via SSO), then return to Descript and publish again.
In Descript:
Confirm that your media has finished encoding
Click "Export" in the top right corner
Set "Wistia" as the destination
Click "Publish" at the bottom of the modal
Tip
Larger project sizes may result in longer wait times to export to Wistia, so be sure to publish early!
You'll be prompted to log in and/or select a Wistia account, then your video will begin importing. While your media is importing to Wistia, you’ll see a page indicating that the import is in progress.
Note
If your media is still encoding with Descript, this page will stick around a bit longer.
Tip
You can leave this page while the import is still processing, and the media will continue to upload.
Once the media has been imported into Wistia, you’ll be directed to its Wistia media manage page, where the encoding process will begin. It will be in a folder called "Imported Media," with "Descript" in the media title.
Tip
If you have a transcript or captions in Descript, these will automatically upload and pull into Wistia!
Import from Descript Troubleshooting
Stuck or failed import
Most imports finish within a few minutes, but larger projects take longer.
If an import seems to be stuck, confirm that your media has finished encoding in Descript; Wistia can't complete the import until Descript's export is done.
If it still won't complete, try canceling the import and starting a fresh publish from Descript.
