Custom Media Page URLs

Customize your media page URL before sharing with your audience.

Written by Katie

Brand and organize your public media page with a custom URL, also known as a URL slug.

By default, media share URLs include an auto-generated ID (e.g., https://mkc.wistia.com/s/8dvf1ohu9s0mhiq). With custom URLs, you can replace this ID with a readable slug of your choosing.

Note

You must be an Account Owner, Manager, or user with "Can manage" permissions to create a custom video URL.

To create a custom slug, open the Share modal and click the pencil icon next to the video page link.

An editing field will open in which you can enter a custom URL.

Click "Save" in the editing box to save your changes. Moving forward, copying the share link for that media will include your new custom URL (e.g., https://mkc.wistia.com/s/wistias-20th).

Custom URL requirements

Custom URLs must:

  • Be between 3 and 80 characters.

  • Use only lowercase letters, numbers, and/or hyphens.

  • Be unique within an account (i.e., the same URL cannot be used more than once in an account).

Edit an existing custom URL

Once you change an existing custom URL, the previous URL will redirect to the same media until the URL is repurposed (i.e., saved to a different media).

User permissions

Account Owners, Managers, and users with "Can manage" permissions for a media can create or manage custom URLs.

See our User Roles overview for more information.

FAQ

What happens to the old URL if I change my URL?

If you change an existing custom URL, the old URL will continue to redirect to the new one unless it is saved to another media.

Can two videos have the same URL?

No, custom URLs must be unique within an account. If a custom URL is already in use, you'll see an error when you try to save.
