Set Folder Defaults

Customize brand, player appearance, and player controls for every media in a folder from one place.

Folder defaults overview

Folder defaults let you apply player customizations to all media within a folder at once, saving you the time and effort of adjusting settings for each item individually. You can apply folder defaults to future uploads, existing media, or both.

Note

Anyone with "can manage" permission on the folder can set and manage folder defaults.

Access folder defaults

You can access folder defaults from the folder page in two ways. One option is to open the folder's more-actions menu ("⋯") and select "Folder defaults."

Another option is to locate the Folder defaults section in the Folder details panel and click "Edit."

The Folder details panel shows a brand kit tile for the brand currently active on the folder, so you can see a folder's state without opening a video.

Apply folder defaults

Apply folder defaults from a folder

To apply folder defaults, open the Folder defaults menu from within a folder and select your desired customizations.

Alternatively, click "Import settings" and pick a source folder to copy defaults from another folder.

Note

Import settings will not apply to the folder until you save.

Optionally, check off "Apply to existing media" to apply the customizations to all media currently in the folder.

Click "Save" to apply the customizations to all future media uploaded to that folder.

Tip

When you save your settings, Wistia only updates the specific customizations you selected, so unrelated per-video settings are left alone.

Available folder default settings

  • Brand and player appearance: Brand, player color, logo, thumbnail fit, and rounded corners.

  • Player controls: Autoplay, play button, playbar, volume, captions on by default, playback speed, quality, fullscreen, and end behavior.

  • Viewer engagement: Wistia Form or MAP form (HubSpot, Marketo, or Pardot), and Discover More.

  • Sharing: Share controls (including download quality) and password protection.

  • Accessibility and language: Transcript on audio (determines whether a transcript tab appears on the audio player).

Note

"Captions on by default" appears here as a folder control even though captions themselves are set per video. Chapters, annotation links, and audio descriptions are not currently supported.

Apply folder defaults from a media

You can also set defaults from the player customize experience. When you customize a player on a media and open the "Save" dropdown, the save options let you apply those customizations to the folder as defaults rather than keeping them on the single video.

A "Set folder defaults" option is also available on the media manage page. To access it, open the ellipses menu and select "Set folder defaults.

This tool will apply all supported player customizations you have enabled on this media to current and/or future uploads. For a list of customizations that will be applied, please see Folder Management.
