Have a question about editing in Wistia, or did an export not go as planned? Start here. If you're new to the editor, check out Getting Started with the Editor first.
Failed export troubleshooting
If your edited video fails to export, first check the following:
Check the length. The edited video has to be under four hours long.
Check for very short clips. Each clip on the timeline needs to be at least half a second long. Delete or extend any tiny slivers left over from splitting.
Check your folder access. If you chose "Save as new video," make sure you can add media to the folder you picked. Check out User Roles for a breakdown of permissions.
Give it some time. If you've been exporting a lot of edits in a short window, you may have hit the daily export limit. Wait a while, then try again. If you have a big batch, spread the exports out over time.
Note
If your media is stuck "rendering" or the export keeps failing after these checks, reach out to our Support Team with a link to the media page, and we'll take a look.
Why does a different video open when I click "Edit"?
When you use "Save as new video," the new video shares an edit session with the video you started from. So when you click "Edit" on the new video, the editor may open that shared session, with the original video's timeline and edits.
Before you save, look over the timeline to make sure you're editing the version you expect.
Does changing the playback speed change my video?
No. The playback speed setting in the editor only changes how fast the preview plays, so you can skim through your media quickly. Your exported video plays at its normal speed.
Can I trim my screen and camera separately?
Not right now. For recordings that include both your screen and camera, a trim applies to both feeds at once. To change what viewers see in part of the video, switch the layout for that section instead. For example, you can show only the screen or only the camera.
Note
For recordings that include both camera and screen, you can only scale and position the screen feed.
Can I undo a trim after replacing my video?
Yes. If you trimmed your video and saved with "Replace current video," you can bring the trimmed content back using the following steps:
Open the media and click "Edit."
Click and drag the end of the trimmed clip back out to restore the content.
Click "Finish & exit," then select "Replace current video."
Why can't my teammate see my edits?
Drafts are saved per user. If a teammate opens the same media in the editor, they start their own draft and won't see your unsaved changes. To share your edits, click "Finish & exit" and save. Your teammate will see them on the media once the export finishes.
