Set up your simulcasting platform
Cover all your bases by streaming your webinar from external locations like Facebook and LinkedIn. Create or schedule the livestream on your desired platform(s), and grab the RTMP URL and stream key to get started. Once you’re all set up, your event will display on the connected platforms when it goes live.
You can show other videos and slides in your webinar using Present Media, and it will simulcast to your destinations along with the rest of the event. Someone still needs to be present behind the scenes to start the event and present the media during it.
Tip
Streaming to LinkedIn? This works a little differently, so check out our LinkedIn Live integration page.
Add RTMP destinations
Note
RTMP destinations must be added before your event goes live.
Once you’ve collected the RTMP URL and stream Key from each platform you want to simulcast to, plug them into your Wistia webinar.
Tip
Simulcasting will not affect your device's internet bandwidth. The streaming to the other platforms occurs between our servers and theirs.
On your webinar's overview page, select “Simulcast” below the event title.
In the Simulcast modal, enter the RTMP URL and stream key.
Note
Your stream key is sensitive—treat it like a password and don't share it publicly. Anyone with it can broadcast to your event.
Click “Save destination” to connect your webinar to the specified destination. You can add up to 5 destinations.
Some providers may also require you to activate the livestream within their platform.
Tip
If you're streaming to YouTube, ensure that you've switched from private to public for the stream to show for your attendees.
Tip
Run a test event before your webinar. Create a test webinar, add your RTMP destinations, and confirm the stream appears as expected on each platform. Once an event is live you can't add destinations, so it's worth verifying ahead of time.
Simulcasting Troubleshooting and FAQ
Stream is stuck on "Preparing"
If you're seeing a "Preparing" status or a black screen at your destination, the connection succeeded but the feed hasn't fully started. Confirm your event has actually gone live in Wistia and that the destination's stream is active.
Viewers can't see the stream on YouTube
Be sure to switch the YouTube broadcast from private to public.
The LinkedIn option is greyed out
This usually means the LinkedIn Live integration isn't connected, your LinkedIn page isn't approved for Live, or a Manager/Owner needs to enable it. See the LinkedIn Live integration article.
Can I create a pre-recorded webinar to simulcast?
You cannot simulcast using a pre-recorded webinar that starts automatically. To show other videos during the webinar, you'll want to use the Present Media feature.
