Mochine

Use Wistia's AI-powered video editing tool to repurpose your content and create highlight reels, spotlight key points, add motion graphics, and more.

Written by Katie

With Mochine, you can create social clips, record and refine footage, and create custom motion kits.

Mochine can turn your existing footage into a brand new video from just a short prompt. Once it builds a draft, you can make changes by chatting with Mochine or editing directly in the preview.

Note

Account Owners, Managers, and Standard users can use Mochine. Limited users can use Mochine if they have Can manage access on at least one folder. Owners and Managers can view and edit every video made with Mochine, as well as Mochine chat history, on the account. Other users can view and edit only what they created, using videos they have edit access to.

Getting started with Mochine

Note

Mochine cannot generate new video and will only leverage your existing footage.

You can open up Mochine from several locations within your Wistia account, including the lefthand side navigation, a folder page, or a video's manage page.

When you open Mochine from your account's Home page, click "Add media" or drag and drop them in to begin.

If you open up Mochine from a folder or media manage page, the video(s) will populate within Mochine.

Click the "+" from the chat box, or drag and drop videos to add more. When you click "+," you can upload new videos, select them from your Wistia library, or record a video.

Click the credits icon to see how many credits you have remaining, and when you'll receive more. Each Mochine creation uses 250 credits.

Have questions about how credits work? Check out this article to learn more.

Navigating within Mochine

Once you've opened Mochine, there are a number of actions you can take.

On the left-side panel, you can open up your chat history by clicking the arrow, start a new chat by clicking "+," open up Motion kits, an record a new video to use with Mochine.

When you open up your chat history, you can click to jump to a previous chat, or hover over a chat and click the trash can icon to delete it.

You can also switch Mochine to dark mode with the settings icon in the lower lefthand corner.

In the upper right, you can download the video, open it in the editor, or go to the video's manage page at any time.

Browse Mochine skills

Looking for inspiration? Click "Browse Mochine skills" in the chat box to view video format suggestions and quick edit options. You can also select "Browse all" to open up this modal.

In the Video formats tab, you'll find preset prompts for creating repurposed clips, including highlight reels, social clips, and compilations.

The Quick edits tab includes options for polishing your video, including captions, background music, and audio cleanup.

The Text formats tab transforms your video into written content, such as a blog post or newsletter.

When you choose a skill and click "Apply prompt", the modal will close, and the prompt will be written in the chat field. You can edit the prompt as needed before sending it.

There are also a few suggestions in the chat box that you can choose from.

Tip

Not sure where to start? Check out our prompt writing tips below.

Create with Mochine

Send your prompt to start the Mochine process. The Wistia agent will analyze the video visuals, any music, and transcripts (if available). It will then extract clips and sequence content. It will also add motion graphics, narration, and music as needed.

Tip

You can navigate to other tabs in your browser and if your volume is on, you'll hear a ping when Mochine has completed the process.

After the process is complete, you can preview the video, request revisions, and make a number of edits before saving.

Tip

When you send a prompt to Mochine, you will have a short window to stop it if you change your mind. As Mochine works through the steps of creating your video, you can click to stop a specific step.

Prompt writing tips

We recommend including the following information in your custom prompt:

  • Purpose (e.g., teaser, highlight reel, tutorial)

  • Duration (e.g., "60-90 seconds")

  • Pace (e.g., fast-paced, calm)

  • Topics to include from your footage

  • You can even write a full outline

You can also make other formatting requests, such as changing the aspect ratio, choosing a layout, and adding burnt-in captions. When you send a prompt to Mochine and it creates a video, you can send more prompts, and make additional adjustments within the video preview screen.

Motion kits

A motion kit is a named, branded package of motion graphics, including a color palette and a full set of animated treatments. Mochine can add animated titles, lower thirds, transitions, captions, word stacks, quote pulls, and other motion graphics. Graphics appear as chips above the clips in the timeline.

You can open up Motion kits from either the side panel, or within the chat box.

Mochine picks and places graphics automatically as it builds your video, pulling copy straight from the transcript.

Three motion kits styles are available: Standard, Pop, and Elevated. Standard is the default, but you can swap in Pop or Elevated upon request via chat, or by clicking into the Motion kit options. You can also tweak the copy, colors, and timing of any motion kit via chat, or by selecting "Edit" from a Motion kit tile.

Custom motion kits

In addition to the built-in motion kits, you can also make your own.

Custom motion kits are 2,500 credits each. Head to our Understanding Credits article to learn more.

There are two ways to create a new motion kit:

  • Open the motion kit picker in the chat field and select "Make your own motion kit".

  • Ask Remix in chat. For example, "Create a custom motion kit for my brand" or "Make me a kit with a bold, inspirational feel."

From here, you can add your website URL for Mochine to pull directly from your brand, use your Brand Kit, or create a new look.

Tip

To match a specific brand, provide a domain (e.g., wistia.com) and Mochine will pull the brand's real colors, fonts, and logo from the website to build the kit.

Once you've selected an option, click "Next." Then, reply to Mochine with more information about how the brand should feel.

Tip

Change your mind about how you'd like to build your custom motion kit? Click the back arrow within the text box to update your preference.

For the final prompt, decide which logo Mochine should use.

Note

Once you select a logo, this cannot be changed.

Finally, click "Create motion kit" and watch Mochine get to work.

You can see the Wistia Agent working in real time as it creates all of the motion graphics.

Once complete, you can see all of the motion graphics Mochine created.

You can also click to view these graphics in 1:1 and 9:16 aspect ratios.

Once created, your custom motion kit will live alongside the built-in Standard, Pop, and Elevated styles. You can also filter motion kits to view all of them, the included options, or just your custom kits.

To open up a motion kit and edit it, click the pencil icon.

From here, you can chat with the Wistia Agent and ask for changes.

To delete a custom kit, click the three dots and select "Delete motion kit."

Then, confirm your decision in the popup modal.

Note

Deleting a custom motion kit means that you will not longer be able to use it. This action cannot be undone.

Record in Mochine

You can create and refine a webcam and/or screen recording right within Mochine. Click the record option from the lefthand side panel.

Click the "Record" button to open up the recording experience.

When the recording is complete, you can save it to your video library, and then work on it in Mochine.

Mochine offers several options to refine your recording:

  • Tighten it up: Cleans up the recording by removing pauses and false starts. Remix also looks for clearly out-of-place sections (off-topic tangents or asides) and asks which, if any, to cut before finishing.

  • Add intro/outro slides: Add a title slide at the beginning of your recording and a closing slide at the end.

  • Add motion graphics callouts: Include animated on-screen text that helps emphasize the key points in your video.

  • Add background music: Remix will choose a music track to add to your video.

  • Keep it as is: Leaves the recording in its original state.

When you've decided what options to use, click the "Submit" button.

Editing your new video in Mochine

Once you've sent Mochine a prompt and it creates a new video, you can make adjustments as needed.

Tip

Have you gone through more than one video iteration with Mochine? You can see which version you're on, and select to view a different version in the video preview.

You'll see prompt suggestions in the chat, and can also click "Browse skills" to open up all of Mochine's skills.

You can continue sending prompts in the chat box to make updates, as well as use additional options on the preview screen to make changes. These options include the following:

  • Change the title of the video

  • Select a different motion kit

  • Change the aspect ratio

  • Choose a layout and enable face framing

  • Toggle captions on or off

Within the chat box, you can also rate the video that Mochine created, open it in Wistia's editor, and save the video to your library.

Below the video preview is the timeline and a number of options. Here you can:

  • Play the video

  • Click through motion graphics if you've added them

  • Change the playback speed

  • Undo an edit

  • Redo an edit

  • Undo all changes

  • Zoom in and out of the timeline

  • Drag and drop the timeline to adjust the clip

Update video title

To update the title of the video, hover over the title within the video preview, and click into it.

When you're all set, click outside the text box or press the return key on your keyboard.

Change motion kit

To change the motion kit Mochine is using, prompt it in the text box or click the selected motion kit from the editor to open the Motion kit settings modal.

Once in your Motion kit settings, select a different kit and click to apply it to the video.

View and edit motion graphics

If your video is using motion graphics, you can click the arrows within the Graphics widget to view each one throughout the timeline. Each motion graphic is marked within the timeline via the purple tracks.

If you'd like to edit the text in a particular graphic, click into the text box to update it.

Select a different aspect ratio

In addition to asking to change the aspect ratio in the chat box, you can also open up the Aspect ratio dropdown within the Mochine editor to select a different one. You can select a 1:1 or 9:16 aspect ratio.

Tip

When you change the aspect ratio, turn on face framing to keep people in each clip centered.

Choose a layout

Open up the "Layout" dropdown to select a new layout.

If you choose Inset, you can decide on a background color, and choose how you'd like to resize the video clip.

Click within the video clip to decide how you'd like to resize it.

Face framing

When changing a video's layout, you can turn on Face framing. Mochine will then detect the speakers in each clip and keep them in frame, instead of cropping to the geometric center of the video. This helps keep subjects from drifting out of frame when you reframe from a horizontal ratio (like 16:9) to a vertical or square one (like 9:16).

If a clip includes a face, you can also enable face framing right under the video preview for it.

Edit and burn in captions

To add burnt-in captions with Mochine, simply ask for them in the chat.

Captions are derived from your video's transcript and narration. The caption style is also fully customizable: you can ask Mochine to change the font, colors, positioning, and more.

You can also update the caption text by clicking into it, and change the positioning by dragging the box up or down within the player. To turn burnt-in captions off, change the Captions toggle to the off position.

Save and export your video in Mochine

Once you're satisfied with your video, click "Save video" and choose to either replace the source video, or save your Mochine video as a new one.

When you select "Save as new video," you'll be prompted to update the video title (if you'd like) and select an existing folder or create a new one to add your video to.

Once you've selected a folder, click "Save video."

Mochine will show that it is saving the video to your video library.

Note

When you save a new video from Mochine, anyone with access to its folder can view it. The Mochine chat and its versions are visible only to the person who created it, along with Account Owners and Managers.

You can choose to go to the video's page, which will close Mochine and direct you to the new video's manage page in your Wistia account. You'll see the video processing here.

If you stay within Mochine, you can see a green checkmark when saving is complete, and click to go to the video page.

You can also download the video from within Mochine, or click the scissor icon to jump into the editor.

If you navigate to a different page in your Wistia account, you'll receive a notification when processing is complete and your video is ready to view.

After saving your video, you can edit, customize, and share your new creation like any other media in Wistia.

Add pronunciation

To define exactly how AI narration in Mochine pronounces certain words (i.e., brand names, product names, or other tricky words), head to the Pronunciation page in your account settings.

To add a new term or phrase, click "Add word."

Then, enter the word(s) and pronunciation. Click "Add pronunciation" to save your changes and sync them to all Mochine narrations.

After saving, you can preview the pronunciation by clicking "Play." If you need to make changes or delete the word(s), click "Edit."

Mochine troubleshooting and FAQ

My changes aren't showing up

Every Mochine revision makes a separate version of the video so it's possible you're viewing an earlier version.

Scroll through your Mochine chat, or open up the version options next to the video title to ensure that you're on the right now.

Before your save your video, ensure that you've selected the correct version.

My video is stuck or disappeared

When you create a video in Mochine, it is always saved as Mochine works on it so refreshing the page or leaving won't lose it.

  1. Open up Mochine from your account's lefthand side navigation menu.

  2. Click the arrow from the left-side panel to open up your chat history and select the version you're looking for.

  3. If it became stuck while saving, click to save it as a new video again.

If it's still stuck, contact Support and include:

  • The link to the Mochine chat (from your browser's address bar)

  • The link to the source video's media manage page

  • What you asked Mochine to do

Fixing captions and transcripts

Captions added by Mochine are burned into the video, which means they become part of the picture when the video is created.

  • Editing the source video's transcript later won't change a Mochine video you already made, or a video you've already saved.

  • While you can make small edits to burnt-in captions in Mochine, you can't edit the transcript file. To make larger edits, correct the transcript on the source video's media manage page first.

  • Burnt-in captions cover the whole video in Mochine. You can't remove them from just one section, like the intro.

  • Burnt-in captions are separate from player captions. You can turn player captions on or off in Customize. If on, viewers can enable them from the playbar. They won't affect captions that are burned into the video.

Editing a Mochine video in the Editor

After you click to save your video from Mochine, it is saved as one final clip. If you open it in the Editor, its music, slides, captions, and graphics are all part of that clip and can't be edited separately. To change slide colors, fonts, or captions, ask for the change in the Mochine chat before saving.

Can I use audio files with Mochine?

Mochine supports using video files and images (alongside video files). It does not currently work with audio files.
