Video Remix

Wistia's new AI-powered editing tool is now in beta.

Written by Katie

Remix is an AI-powered video editing tool that eliminates tedious manual editing. Create highlight reels, condensed versions, chaptered content, and more with a short text description.

Note

Only Account Owners and Managers can access Remix.

Create a new Remix

Note

Remixes cannot generate new video and will only leverage your existing footage.

Remix can be used for any single video or a folder containing multiple videos. You can access this feature in a few different ways.

To get started, click the "Remix" button in the account navigation menu, in a folder, or on a media page.

From the Remix page, select a suggested prompt or write your own in the text box.

Tip

Not sure where to start? Check out our prompt writing tips below.

You can also add more source videos to the Remix and view your remaining Remix credits from here.

Note

You'll receive fresh credits every month. Each Remix and revision uses a credit. Unused credits don't carry over.

On the left side panel, you can start a new Remix by clicking the "+" icon or access your Remix chat history using the speech bubble icon.

Send your prompt to start the Remix process. The Remix agent will analyze the transcript(s), video visuals, and any music. It will then extract clips and sequence content. It will also add slides, narration, and music as needed.

Tip

Your videos do not need a transcript to work with Remix.

After the Remix is complete, you can preview the video and request revisions before saving.

Remix offers several capabilities for reading your content.

  • Scene captions: Remix can generate time-coded visual descriptions of each scene. This runs when the agent decides that it's needed, such as when a prompt calls on visual information or there is no transcript.

  • Video-montage: If you give Remix clips with no audio and ask for a montage, Remix uses scene captions to determine what's happening and where to cut, then lays a music bed on top.

Prompt writing tips

Tips for writing remix prompts are included in the "Prompt guidance" tool tip in the Remix modal. We recommend including the following information in your custom prompt:

  • Purpose (e.g., teaser, highlight reel, tutorial)

  • Duration (e.g., "60-90 seconds")

  • Pace (e.g., fast-paced, calm)

  • Topics to include from your footage

  • You can even write a full outline

Record in Remix

You can create and refine a webcam and/or screen recording right within Remix. In the Remix chat, ask to make a recording, and a Record button will appear in the conversation.

Clicking the Record button will open up the recording experience. When you're done, the recording will be ready for Remix.

When the recording is complete, Remix offers the following options:

  • Tighten it up: Cleans up the recording by removing pauses and false starts. Remix also looks for clearly out-of-place sections (off-topic tangents or asides) and asks which, if any, to cut before finishing.

  • Rewrite and re-record: Rewrites what you've said to be clearer and more concise. It'll show you the new script to edit and approve, then loads the approved script into the in-app teleprompter and reopens the recorder so you can re-record it.

  • Turn it into narrated slides: Turns the recording into a slide video. Your footage is replaced by slides, and your voice is replaced by an AI voiceover reading the rewritten script (with your approval), set over background music.

  • Keep it as is: Saves the recording to your library; nothing further needed.

Add captions

To add burnt-in captions to your Remix, simply ask for them in the chat.

Captions are derived from your video's transcript and narration. The caption style is also fully customizable: beyond the four presets, you can ask Remix to change the font, colors, positioning, and more.

You may also add burnt-in captions after the remix has been generated in the "Format" tab.

Aspect ratio

Ask Remix to change your video's aspect ratio, including 9:16 (vertical), square, or any custom ratio.

You can also ask Remix to reposition the frame on a per-scene basis (e.g., "focus on the right side of the frame").

Add pronunciation

To define exactly how AI narration in Remix pronounces certain words (i.e., brand names, product names, or other tricky words), head to the Pronunciation page in your account settings.

To add a new term or phrase, click "Add word," then enter the word(s) and pronunciation. Click "Add pronunciation" to save your changes and sync them to all Remix narrations.

After saving, you can preview the pronunciation by clicking "Play." If you need to make changes or delete the word(s), click "Edit."

Clean up audio

Remix can also clean up the audio captured in your source clips, including stripping background noise and any background music. Ask the agent to "remove the background music," "clean up the audio," or "isolate the voice".

Remix preview

Once you've created a remix, click "Format" to access additional customization options.

Similar to the Wisita Editor, the Format modal includes "Layout" and "Captions" customization tabs.

Scale and position clip

Click directly on the video preview to open the bounding box and start repositioning clips.

Each scene can be positioned independently by dragging the bounding box or selecting the "Fit" or "Fill resizing options below the video preview.

Remember to click "Apply changes" at the top right of the page to save your work.

Export your Remix

Once you're satisfied with your remix, click "Save as new video" to save it to your Wistia account.

You'll be able to edit the title and select a destination folder when saving.

After saving your Remix, you can edit, customize, and share your new creation like any other media in Wistia.

Below the video previewer, you'll see options to navigate to the new media page (via the "Saved as" title), open the remixed video in the editor, and download the file.
