Media Tags

Use tags to organize, search, filter, and discover your content in Wistia.

Note

Media tags are available on all Wistia plans.

Create and manage tags

Note

You must be an Account Owner or Manager to access the Tag management page.

All existing tags can be accessed from the Tags page in your account settings. Here, you can:

  • Add new tags

  • Edit existing tags

  • Delete tags

  • Navigate to tagged videos in your Video Library

Rename a tag

To rename a tag, navigate to the Tags menu in your Account Settings. Select the pencil icon associated with the tag you'd like to edit, then change the name, and click “Save” to confirm your changes.

Delete a tag

To delete a tag from the Tags page in your account settings, click the trash can icon associated with the tag you'd like to delete. You’ll be prompted to confirm your decision in a modal that shows the current number of media files using that tag.

Alert

Deleted tags cannot be restored.

Add tags to media

You can add tags to media on media manage pages, folder pages, the Video Library, or the Tags management page in your account settings.

Tip

Looking to automate media tagging? Check out our Data API documentation for developers.

On an individual media's manage page, scroll down to the “Tags” section below the media description and click “Add tags”.

In the Add or remove tags modal, select or search for the desired tag, or click “Manage” to access the Tag management page.

To add tags to media in bulk, select your desired content in a folder or in the Video Library, then open up the three dots menu in the bottom bulk actions bar, and click “Tag.”

From here, select the tags you’d like to add, type to search existing tags, or create new tags. Then, click “Add Tag(s).”

Filter content by tags

To see all media with a specific tag, click on that tag on the media's manage page or the Tag management page. You’ll be directed to the Video Library, where that tag will be applied as a filter.

You can also filter by tag directly within a folder. Use the Tags filter at the top of any folder page, just like in the Video Library.

User access

Account Owners and Managers can create and manage tags for any media. Standard and Limited Users with “Can manage” permissions can manage tags for specified folders.

Check out our User Roles article for more information on adjusting user permission levels.

Auto tagging

If your account has automatic tagging enabled, Wistia can use AI to analyze a media's transcript and apply up to 3 relevant tags for you. To turn this off, head to your Account Settings. It will not add tags if it doesn't find any that feel relevant. Check out this article for a full breakdown on Account Settings.
